Multimedia Data Delivery in High-Speed Multichannel networks

چکیده

We propose an efficient communication protocol for multimedia data delivery in high-speed multichannel networks. Multimedia traffic is generally categorized into two types: real-time traffic and delayable traffic. High-speed multichannel networks refer to the third-generation computer networks, e.g., WDMA networks, with high-speed parallel multichannels to be able to support multiaccess communications. A scheduling algorithm is also proposed to maximize the slot utilization. We compare the blocking performance of real-time traffic as well as the delay-throughput performance of delayable traffic for different traffic conditions. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol has following advantages: 1) small and bounded packet delay for real-time data delivery and 2) slot utilization for delayable traffic is maximized without violating real-time data delivery, and therefore mean packet delay for delayable traffic is minimized for uniform traffic.
